Art Gone Wild- day 3
This piece was the one that was getting away from me yesterday. It originally contained just the pose in the background. I wasn't happy with it and my model kept striking poses that I liked so much more than the one I had for reference. I was trying to alternate between painting, looking, and taking snap shots of the new poses with the phone. Meanwhile, the ATL heat was drying the acrylic paints if left alone for more than 30 seconds to a firm skin and making my phone hot to the touch. Also there is some kind of bug that is about the size of a common house fly that is quite the biter.
I decided I'd try a multiple view of the animal as a compromise to try to save it (taking inspiration from the mighty Jenny Saville). In the early stages it was quite the mess. Quote of the day from a young man, "Hmmmm... It's not the best". I told him I agreed but, that is why acrylic paint is awesome because it allows you to pull something great from a mess by painting over it. Still, despite my best efforts, the heat and insects were pulling the same moves today so this is tonight's homework.
Best part of the day, my sister and my nephews were crazy enough to travel from Augusta to see me. Given Atlanta traffic that is no simple task so I was really touched and happy to see them.
